Britain Colonizes India
In the 1700's, the Mughal Empire of India started to break down. Many small states of India, ruled by mahajaras or rulers, started to break off and step away from being ruled by the Mughal Empire. Britain saw this as a chance to take over India, and being as India was falling apart, it wasn't too hard for them. In 1757, Robert Clive, along with troops from the East India Company, fought in the Battle of Plassey against Indian and French forces, and the East India Company took rule over India.
Over time, the East India Company increased it's control and colonized India. At first, the Britain government regulated and controlled all of what the East India Company did. Eventually, in the 19th century, the East India Company ruled India without any interference from Britain government. Over time, India became more and more valuable to the British because of how many people there were and the raw materials that India could supply Britain with. Britain established a railroad system which made it easier for the British to transport goods from India to Britain.
Britain colonizing India had a big impact on India and Britain in many ways. It negatively affected India because Britain was in control of most of the political and economic power. Most Indian people did not get to live life the way they wanted to because they were in control by Britain. Some good things also came out of it too. One of them is that they established a railroad network that was the third largest in the world. Also schools and other things were built which helped people of India come together as a nation.
